How to Use Art to Create a Calming Home

Give it to God and Go to Sleep by Susan Newberry Designs

Our Homes As Sanctuaries

In our fast-paced world, our homes have become more than just a place to live—they are our sanctuaries. They are the places where we seek refuge, find peace, and recharge from the demands of the day. While comfort is key, the art we choose to hang on our walls plays an incredibly powerful role in shaping the energy of a room. Intentional art selection can transform a space from merely decorated to truly serene.

As an interior designer, I've seen firsthand how art can influence a person's mood. The goal is to fill your space with pieces that don’t just look good, but also feel good. When choosing art to create a calming atmosphere, think beyond just what is aesthetically pleasing. Consider the colors, textures, and most importantly, the personal connection the art holds.

Soft, muted color palettes—think gentle pastels, warm earth tones, or tranquil blues and greens—can instantly create a sense of calm. Look for art that features serene subjects like peaceful landscapes, abstract designs with flowing lines, or botanical prints that bring the quiet of nature indoors.

However, the most effective art for a calming home is that which holds deep personal meaning. A piece that reminds you of a beautiful memory or a loved one can instantly soothe the soul and ground you in what truly matters. This is the very heart of the custom art we create at Susan Newberry Designs.

Transform Your Space with Art That Speaks to You!

Instead of a generic print, imagine a unique piece of art that speaks directly to you. A custom word cloud filled with words of gratitude, peace, and family can serve as a powerful daily affirmation. Or a simple, elegant typography print featuring a favorite calming quote or the date of a cherished moment can bring a gentle stillness to any room. These personalized pieces are more than just decor; they are visual reminders of your most treasured blessings.

We believe that creating a sanctuary should be a joyful and personal journey. Don't wait to start building a home that not only looks beautiful but also nurtures your well-being. Choosing one or two meaningful art pieces can be the first step in creating a space that welcomes you with peace and tranquility every time you walk through the door.

Let us help you create a custom art piece that is uniquely yours—a piece that not only beautifies your home but also fills it with a lasting sense of calm.

Hi, I’m Susan! I’ve spent the last 10 years building my online company. I’ve always loved everything to do with design. In fact, after raising my kids, I decided to go to school and get my degree in Interior Design. While running my own interior design company, I started teaching and found that teaching was what I really loved. Combine that with Interior Design and well, you could say I was on cloud nine. I always loved the technical side of design which led me to graphic design and after studying graphic design, I was encouraged to open an Etsy shop to sell some of my creations. With my attention to detail and being somewhat of a perfectionist, graphic design made perfect sense. In December of 2018, I decided to retire from teaching and devote myself full time to my business and I haven’t looked back since! I love designing art for the home and would love to create something special for you.

It’s true what they say, “Love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life.”
