Our Powder Room Redo

Our latest renovation was a fairly easy one - the powder room. Before, it was dated and blah, and we felt like it was time for a change. Unfortunately I didn’t get a complete picture of the room, just the sink area. But you get the idea!

POWDER ROOM BEFORE

We were tired of the beigeness of the bathroom. This was the same granite that was in our kitchen prior to renovation. If you missed our kitchen renovation, click here to read all about it.

Here’s what we did in the powder room…

***Replaced the cabinet with a new one. Work was done by The UniqHouse.

***Replaced the dated granite top with a new quartz one in white with light gray veining.

***Changed out the oval sink for a more modern rectangular one.

***Upgraded lighting and all hardware.

***Replaced the 30 year old toilet.

***Painted and stenciled the walls.

***Painted trim and door a soft gray. Painted with love by my son-in-law!

What do you think of the stencil? That took me two days to complete. If you’ve never stenciled before, it’s not too hard. Just make sure you have a helper (a go-for) by your side. Otherwise, you’ll be running up and down the ladder and running to reload your roller. The trick to stenciling is to use very little paint. We opted for a light gray paint in Eggshell - White Metal by Behr for the stencil and for the walls we selected Baker Box in flat by Behr. The trim was a satin by Valspar called Gravity.

I purchased the stencil from an Etsy seller in Turkey. I was surprised with how reasonable it was and how quickly it came. Here’s a link to purchase if you’re interested: Herringbone Stencil. The stencil was large, about 22 x 35 inches. And here’s the nice thing - you get two for one! I used a small sponge roller and stenciling was easy!

Here are some pictures…

Of course I needed new artwork for over the toilet. So to bring in just a bit of color, I designed this one with a bit of green. It’s a framed canvas print in 18 x 24. What do you think?

If you want any information on the exact products we used or anything else about this project, just contact me and I’ll answer your questions.

I think we are done with projects for awhile. It takes a lot out of you while it’s going on and now it’s time to relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor.
